Nicola Johnston - Independent Funeral Celebrant

“Everyone has a story to be told no matter if they are with us for a brief time or a lifetime”

Custom Funerals and Memorials Uniquely Celebrating Your Loved One’s Life

Hello, I'm Nicola Johnston

I was in senior management within the oil and gas industry working away lots when my grandma passed. Being at her funeral and listening to her service, I knew this was something I could do for families during times of grief.

My current work was no longer my future, so I left my successful full-time career in order for me to be able to give everything into becoming an independent funeral celebrant. I was trained in Perth through Celebrant Training Scotland and have my certificate and letter of endorsement, and I am also a member of the Scottish Independent Celebrant Association (SICA)

"I truly feel so grateful that I am able to do this job. I knew this was something I could do for families during times of grief."

My journey has now begun as an Independent Funeral Celebrant and every day I truly feel so grateful that I am able to do this job although it does not feel like work, but spending time with families and being able to then put together a service and then to stand in front of the family and tell their loves ones story is just an honour.

I work closely with Funeral Directors who have met me, and they will call me if they feel I would be a good match for a family. When they call they give me the information of when the funeral will be held, the time, date and the name of the Next of Kin, I then call them and arrange a suitable time to meet.

After I have met with the family I would let the Funeral Directors know and I would always check in the day before to make sure everything is perfect. I'm often requested direct by someone who has heard of me through a friend or has been at a previous service.

“Hi Nicola, on behalf of myself and my family, we wish to thank you very much for a beautiful service, and reading of **** life. It has meant so much to us and I'm sorry, that I didn't get to thank you after the service. All of the extended family and our friends, have commented on how beautiful your reading was, and was a fitting send off for my dear ****. I am sure that your future readings will give many bereaved families the love, joy and strength, that you gave us last **** Once again I thank you for all you have done for us.”
